Mary McKercher, right, leads the Silvertoners through a rehearsal at Central Christian Church in New Albany on Wednesday afternoon. After 35 years and eight months of performing at local events including nursing homes and concerts, the Silvertoners are calling it quits. At 4 p.m. Sunday at Central Christian Church, they will perform for the last time. McKercher started the group with eight people in 1980 and is still its director. At 92, she said “it’s time to stop.” The Silvertoners now have 29 members. They used to average 60 performances a year. “I came to realize the time has come,” McKercher said. “There comes a day when you have to stop something.” Staff photo by Christopher Fryer
