Daihzey Westmoreland, 18, sings along while listening to music with a fellow resident at Open Door Youth Services in Floyd County. Westmoreland said that music used to be a retreat from the emotional and physical abuse that eventually led her to leave her mother's home in the Indianapolis area at the age of 16. "I used to go and put my headphones on and it used to just take me away and stuff," she said. After about two years in various levels of homelessness she ended up at Open Door through the Indiana Department of Child Services in November of last year. Staff photo by Christopher Fryer
